Date: First Sunday in July

The only “Ayu fortune-telling ritual” in Japan

It is a ritual held on the first Sunday of July at Mito Shrine in Otaki Gorge, where sweetfish are thrown into the hollow of a large rock in the middle of the river to predict the good or bad fortune of the year.

A festival is held at Mitogami Shrine. An ayu divination ritual is held, and after the ritual, there is a sweetfish hooking and salt-grilling bazaar at the campsite.

You can view and edit the sightseeing route (My Plan on My Page) that will take you around the selected spots.
