Kankoodori (matsusakiuracho) [Prefectural designated cultural property] Kankorotori (Matsusakiuracho)

Kanko Dance (matsusakiuracho)
Kanko Dance (matsusakiuracho)

Date: Wednesday, August 14, 2024 to Friday, August 16, 2024

Originally, it was a festival for fishermen who worshiped the former Ebisu Shrine, praying for the peace of the parishioners and a bountiful harvest, but eventually the Nenbutsu dance was left behind and became the dance for the first Bon memorial service.
The dancers are unique in their unusual appearance, with a flower hat on their head, a navy blue happi coat, a white sash, and a hand towel made from bean paste covering their faces and hanging a kiln drum.
The dance begins at Matsugasaki Shrine, and is divided into two days to visit the houses of the first Bon festival. On the final day, the festival bids farewell to all the spirits at Kaizenji Temple, and concludes with a dance at Matsugasaki Shrine.

It was designated as an intangible folk cultural property by the prefecture on March 31, 1973 (S48).
