The Mito Shinto ritual is an annual event at Takamukai Taisha Shrine, and the shrine records that it began as a festival to exorcise and purify evil spirits and pray for a bountiful harvest due to the famine that occurred during the Yowa era (1181-1182).
Since ancient times, it has been held at each of the seven shrines in the Shinto shrine of Yamada, but currently it is only held at Takamukai.
During the day, he performs the dance of the seven awakenings that was designed to exterminate the serpent by Suenmeison, and goes around door-to-door using his head, called Fukumemono, to exorcise exorcisms.
In the evening, there is a grand fire festival called Uchimatsuri, which includes fried rice balls and sword dances by Sugidayu, and is an event that retains its old-fashioned style.
It was designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property on May 17, 1977 (S52).
