Move your heart. Draw the future.
A large object in the plaza of the Mie Prefectural Cultural Center. It is "La Grande Temperance" by Niki de Saint Phalle, born in France. This object, which has been watching over the center since its opening as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, is one of the works in the "Nana" series. "Nana" is a slang word for girl in French. Niki began creating the "Nana" series of colorful and voluptuous female figures after a friend became pregnant, and her works are now exhibited all over the world. One of these statues came to Sobun by chance 30 years ago.
Niki continued to create art until his death at the age of 71, and his passion continues to inspire many people around the world. There was a Japanese woman whose life was changed by Niki's work. She was the late Shizue Masuda, known as Yoko, a world-famous collector of Niki's work. Yoko was so moved by one of Niki's prints that she developed a friendship with him and 14 years later founded the Niki Museum.
This exhibition will feature approximately 130 works, mainly two-dimensional pieces, from Yoko's collection, including the print "Love Letter" that shocked Yoko, the vivid paintings from her "Nana" series, and illustrated letters sent to Yoko by Niki.
★Let's decorate the Niki exhibition! We're looking for everyone's Nana!
We are looking for children to draw "Nana" to be displayed in the same venue as Niki's works at this exhibition!
You can use the artist's bag to draw in the studio! You can also draw at home!
Children who draw will receive a free invitation to "Kids First Day," which will be held one day before the exhibition begins!
Niki de Saint Phalle Exhibition "Children First Day" will be held on Friday, August 30th in the afternoon
