GojobanYashiki is a samurai residence in a row where the samurai with the title of ``Matsuzaka Castlekeeper'' who guarded Matsuzaka Castle lived, and one house at the north end of the west wing is open to the public free of charge. What is GojobanYashiki?
GojobanYashiki is a samurai residence where 20 samurai who served as the guard of Matsuzaka Castle and their families lived.
Samurai residences line both sides of the stone pavement that connects the back gate of Matsuzaka Castle to the Takego Monzeki, which was once inside the castle. The samurai guarding the castle lived inside the castle.
Fugamaruis the largest existing nagaya samurai residence, and was designated as a national important cultural property in 2004 (Heisei 16).
Descendants still live in the ChamuGojobanYashiki, and the building is maintained by them.

Parking location
The nearest parking GojobanYashiki is the MatsusakaCity Parking Lot, which is about a 7-minute walk from Ojo Banyashiki, and parking is free.
There are a large number of parking spaces here, 210, but it is also used by users of nearby facilities, so it can be full even on weekdays.
If the parking lot is full, please use the nearby paid parking lot (coin parking lot). You can also use the MatsusakaCity parking lot, which is only open to the public on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Highlights of GojobanYashiki
We'll introduce you to the key points for enjoying your visit to GojobanYashiki, as well as its unique charms.
You can tour and take photos inside the building.
GojobanYashiki is made up of 19 units in both the east and west wings, of which the one at the north end of the west wing is open to the public for tours free of charge.
Opening hours are 10:00 to 16:00, closed on Mondays and New Year's holidays.
*If Monday is a holiday, the museum will be closed the next day.
Learn about life in the Edo period
The interior of the building is characterized by a spacious dirt floor with no ceiling, and the floor plan from the Edo period has been faithfully preserved.
When you take off your shoes and go up to the room, you can look around the four rooms with tatami flooring.
There is a hallway with a wooden floor between the courtyard and the dirt floor, and you can feel the atmosphere unique to an old house. Did the samurai of the time also sit on this porch and look out at the courtyard?
You are free to take photos inside the Chamubuilding, but please be considerate of those around you when taking photos.
Filming locations for the movie “Rurouni Kenshin”
It became a filming location for the final chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin movie series, ``Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning'', and has become a popular spot for fans to visit.
Filming took place here about a year before the movie was released, and scenes from the movie and scenes from the movie are on display inside the room.

The stone pavement is lined with well-kept hedges and garden trees on both sides, creating a space where you can feel the atmosphere of those days.
As you walk towards the Chamu Matsuzaka Castle Ruins, you will be able to see the stone walls of the castle and feel as if you have traveled back in time to the Edo period♫

① Photograph retro furniture and tools
Retro furniture and tools are on display inside the building, giving you a glimpse of life in the past.
By taking pictures of them, you can take photos that will make you feel like you have traveled back in time.
② Fences and cobblestones
The beauty of the stone-paved street and the fences on both sides is unique to GojobanYashiki.
If you take the photo toward the Matsuzaka Castle ruins, you will see the castle's stone walls, giving you a more authentic feel of the Edo period.
