If you want to enjoy the early spring, we recommend Daijiji Temple in Daio-cho ShimaCity!

◆Article creation: Hanachiro
A father of a naughty daughter and a selfish son who lives in IseCity.
There tends to be an increase in photos of children looking like idiots (lol), but do they look energetic, fun, and cute? We are active with this motto!

After actually going out with my family, I'm sharing the charms of Mie that I highly recommend.

*Photos posted include those taken in 2021.

Houzan Daijiji Temple

This time we will be introducing Daijiji Temple, a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in Shima City, ShimaCity Prefecture.
It is also known as the temple where the commander of the Kuki Suigun Nakirimaru and his vassals rest in peace.

In addition, Nakiri, Daio-cho ShimaCity where Daijiji Temple is located, is a spot with beautiful, picturesque scenery, and is also known as the ``town of painters.''

It's a spectacular sight to see the shrine grounds filled with early blooming cherry blossoms, giving you an early feel of spring!

What is Tenrei Sakura?

When the previous priest of Daijiji Temple visited Izu, which is famous for its early-blooming Kawazu cherry blossoms, he was moved by its beauty, and from the few trees he shared with him, he carefully cultivated these Tenrei cherry blossoms.

It is said to be the first Kawazu cherry tree to be grown in Mie Prefecture, and was named ``Tenrei cherry tree'' after the previous monk who passed away without being able to see it grow.

The charm of Tenrei cherry blossoms is their bright flower colors and early blooming.

You can see that it has a distinct bright pink color compared to the pale color of Somei Yoshino.
In addition, the cherry blossoms bloom about a month earlier than other cherry blossoms, and the best time to see them is relatively long, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery that makes you look forward to the coming spring.

At first there were only a few cherry trees, but now their descendants have planted around 30 trees in and around the shrine grounds, heralding the early arrival of spring in this town.

The Kawazuzakura of Temaki Gonbei no Sato in KihokuTown, affectionately known as TanemakiGonbei-no-Sato, is said to have been donated by this temple.

Best time to see/access

The Tenrei cherry blossoms at Daijiji Temple are at their best from mid-February to early March every year.

In 2024, the flowers have started blooming as of February 13th, and are expected to reach their peak around February 20th.

There is a parking lot at Daijiji Temple, but the road near the parking lot is narrow and gets crowded during peak cherry blossom viewing, so we recommend using a nearby parking lot such as the Daiozaki Tourist Parking Lot.

As you can see in this photo, the cherry blossoms viewed from the elevated parking lot were also wonderful.

From here, we will introduce recommended spots to enjoy cherry blossoms.

In front of Daijiji temple entrance

You can enjoy the Tenrei cherry blossoms at Daijiji Temple even before entering the temple grounds.

In front of the Sanmon gate, branches of cherry blossoms overflow from the precincts, and the sight of the bright cherry blossoms right in front of you is truly impressive.

My 3 year old daughter was very excited to see the cherry blossoms blooming so tall that she could touch them.

Senju Kannon

In the precincts, cherry blossoms bloom in abundance, enveloping the Senju Kannon.

The sight of the sky filled with cherry blossoms in full bloom is so beautiful that there is no need to explain it.

Personally, I also recommend the cherry blossoms approaching behind the Jizo statue.

In front of the main hall

The main attraction is in front of the main hall in the center of the precincts.

Not only are you surrounded by brightly colored cherry blossoms, but the contrast between the roof of the main hall and the rapeseed flowers blooming on the grounds is also vivid.

When I suddenly noticed, my daughter had the cherry blossoms in full bloom all to herself.

Since other people had to pass by, I asked them to view the cherry blossoms in a more polite manner (bitter smile).

In front of Ishigaki

Even after you leave the shrine grounds, the sights continue.

Nakiri is also a town of stonemasons, and the stone wall of Daijiji Temple is a masterpiece of Nakiri stonemasonry built during the Edo period.
The combination of rape blossoms blooming near Daijiji Temple and cherry blossoms overhanging the temple grounds is beautiful!

The Tenrei cherry blossoms at Daijiji Temple are also known as ``Flower Paradise''.
Be sure to visit to see the spectacular sight of bright pink blooms!

Daiozaki Lighthouse

Next, we will introduce recommended spots in Daiozaki that you should stop by after viewing the cherry blossoms at Daijiji Temple.

The white-walled Daiozaki Lighthouse, which is also famous as a lighthouse that can be climbed, is a symbol of Shima. It is a popular tourist spot where you can enjoy not only the sea view but also the quaint cobblestone slopes along the way.

My daughter ignored the beautiful scenery and was more concerned about the statue of the artist (lol)

stop by joe

The next place we'd like to introduce is "stop by joe," a stylish cafe that just opened this year.

This shop, which offers a panoramic view of Nakiri Fishing Port, was opened in a building that used to be a pearl store and was renovated into a cafe.

You can enjoy hamburgers made with homemade bread sandwiched with fish landed at the fishing port in front of you, and butter chicken curry made with Isedori.

With an extensive drink menu, this restaurant is perfect for lunch or a break while strolling around Daiozaki.
Be sure to stop by this new spot, which is popular for its stylish interior and cuisine made with local ingredients!

Head to Nakiri, Daio Town to enjoy spring early!

This concludes my introduction to Daijiji Temple and Daio Town in spring.

In fact, Daijiji Temple is also a popular spot for hydrangeas in early summer, where you can enjoy a different view than in spring.
