The moss-covered stone pavement also has a nice atmosphere,'' the two said as they walked and enjoyed the scenery.

The stone pavement of Kumano Kodo is wide, about 1.5 meters wide (approximately 2.7 meters). Why is the road so wide? Well, that's because it was used to carry the lord's basket on its side.
Much of the Kumano Kodo Iseji route that we see today was built after the Edo period under the orders of the Kishu clan (Tokugawa clan). When carrying a lord, the basket is designed to be wide enough to be carried horizontally because if it is held vertically, it puts a strain on one of the bearers. It is also interesting to learn about the history of the ancient road from the width of the cobblestone road!
There are landmarks placed every 100 meters along the Kumano Kodo, allowing you to know your current location. The signpost in the photo reads `` Magose-togePass 02/22,'' which means we are at the 200 meter point of the 2.2 km path.
*In the event that you need rescue or report, the number on the signpost will serve as a guide to your current location! Let's walk the Kumano Kodo, paying attention to the signposts.
night cry jizo
About a 10-minute walk from the trailhead, there is a stone shrine called ``Yonaki Jizo.''
Until the Meiji period, there was a stone Jizo statue used to pray for the safety of travelers. Currently, a natural stone is enshrined there, and it came to be called ``Yonaki Jizo'' because people in the area prayed to stop children from crying at night.
As you go further from Yocuri Jizo, you will see a heart-shaped stone paved in the cobblestones. It might be fun to find heart-shaped or other interestingly shaped stones and take photos of them.
If you walk for about 30 minutes from Yocuri Jizo, you will find a resting spot with a great view. There are benches, so take a breather and stay hydrated.
*Take your trash home!

You can climb to the top of the huge rock at the top of Mt. Tengukura (522 meters above sea level) and enjoy the spectacular view below. ``You can get a panoramic view of the city and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that you've made it to the top,'' the two of them said while looking out at the scenery.
