Mt. Myoken is located in kounogi Kounogi district MihamaTown, and has been a mountain of worship for a long time, so much so that some locals go to the top of the mountain on New Year's visit.

When you actually climb the mountain, you can clearly see that it is a mountain with a mystical atmosphere.

This time, we will explain information on climbing Mt. Myoken and recommended spots such as the mysterious waterfall nearby!

[Things to keep in mind when climbing]
Climbing involves dealing with nature, so there is a good chance that uncertainties and unexpected situations may occur. Be sure to prepare well, plan well, and have fun.

What kind of mountain is Mt. Myoken?

kounogi, MihamaTown is located in the mountains about 15 minutes by car from Shichirimihama, a sandy beach with a total length of about 22 km.

One of the mountains that can be seen from this kounogi area is ``Mt. Myoken'', which we will introduce today, and it stands tall with a mysterious shape.

Here's a question for everyone.

This photo shows the summit of Mt. Myoken.

So, which of these is the summit of Mt. Myoken? ?

The correct answer is...

Here it is.

"Huh? Is this strange protrusion the top of the mountain?"

You may be wondering, "Why is it sticking out so much?"

The true identity of this protrusion is a "rock".

There is a huge rock like this just below the summit of Mt. Myoken, and this huge rock is said to be the object of worship at Mt. Myoken (the enshrined deity is the Big Dipper).

Mt. Myoken is a familiar mountain that is worshiped by the people of kounogi area, and it is said that many locals come to worship during the New Year's visit.

TAKA:It's big, but most of all I'm overwhelmed by its atmosphere.

Also, on the day this photo was taken, there was no wind, and the mountains were filled with fog, creating a magical atmosphere.

Encountering such situations is a common occurrence when climbing mountains, and it makes me realize once again how amazing nature is.

Let's remember
Mt. Myoken has been certified as one of the 10 mountains that represent HigashiKishu HigashiKishu region.

Climb entrance and climbing route explained

The trailhead is located in a residential area in MihamaTown kounogi but the signage is not very conspicuous, so you may have a hard time finding it.

I will write down the approximate location, so I hope you can use this as a guide.

Please refer to the sign in the photo above near the intersection near the center of the map.

Please note that there is no parking lot near the trailhead.

[Question] Can beginners climb Mt. Myoken?

Yes, you can climb.

There are footprints, and there are town stones and information boards along the trail that indicate the remaining distance to the summit, so I don't think there will be any problems.

There are 19 TAKAtown stones in total. It might be fun to climb while finding everything!

A little bit of trivia
A town stone is said to be a stone placed every block along the roadside in a town, but a town stone placed in the mountains is said to be a guide to the top. It has the meaning of ``resting the mind of a traveler.'' In addition, there is a religious path called ``Koyasan Town Ishido'' on Mt. Koya in Wakayama Prefecture.

Climbing route explained

Basically, there is only one route.

It will take about 2 hours to reach the summit.

The mountain trail is a route surrounded by trees as shown in the photo, and unfortunately the view is only partially open at the top.

There are marked trails, and there are tapes and town stones as landmarks, but depending on the location, there are some spots where you might miss a route, so we recommend checking carefully before walking.

About access

The trailhead for Mt. Myoken is located near Harachi Shrine in the kounogi area of MihamaTown, so I recommend setting your destination using the shrine as a landmark.

Let's watch out
Please note that there are residences near the trailhead, so please be considerate of residents when driving.

Introducing recommended spots in the surrounding area

I will introduce two spots including the place where the "mysterious waterfall" mentioned in the title is located.

Both locations are close to each other (about 5 kilometers at the most), so I hope you'll stop by and check them out.

Fudo Falls

Fudo-no-taki is a place that the people of kounogi area have treasured as a path of prayer.

A unique feature of this waterfall is that because the amount of water is not large enough to flow down into the basin, the lower side of the waterfall is a mist.

Due to the small amount of water, you can go inside the waterfall, and the extraordinary world you see from there is truly mysterious.

The location will be here.

Let's watch out
The road leading up to this waterfall is a bit rough and difficult for beginners to climb, so we recommend that you be accompanied by someone with experience.

Deko de Deko

This miscellaneous goods and cafe shop is located in a quiet residential area.

There is a very cozy space with tasteful miscellaneous goods and tableware, as well as a delicious cafe menu handmade by the owner.

I bought some tableware here (lol)
