What is Ise-Shima Skyline?

Ise-Shima Skyline is a 16.3km driveway connecting Ise and Toba that opened in 1964.

The course starts from Naiku IseJingu, crosses Mt.Asama Asama at an altitude of 555m, and continues towards Kintetsu Toba Station, allowing you to see the rich nature of Ise-Shima while driving.

Along the way, there are many observation points that can only be seen from high places, so it is also called the Sky Driveway.

Enjoy spectacular views and gourmet food at the summit plaza

As you climb up the Ise-Shima Skyline, you will arrive at the summit plaza.

Here you can enjoy both gourmet food and sightseeing, as there is an observation deck with a spectacular view, a footbath, a retro mailbox, souvenir shops, and restaurants.

*The photo above is the parking lot at the summit plaza.

Access by bus

Mie Kotsu's Sangu Bus operates on the Skyline Route, which connects Kintetsu's Isuzugawa Station and the Ise-Shima Skyline.

The route is Kintetsu Isuzugawa Station - Urata Town -KongoshojiTemple- Yamagami Koen, and Urata Town is a bus stop near the entrance to Oharai-Machi.

Recommended spots

Here, we will introduce recommended observation decks and night view spots on the Ise-Shima Skyline, as well as some delicious gourmet food that can be eaten at the mountaintop.

``Ichiuda Observation Deck'' with a beautiful night view

If you drive for about 5 minutes from Ise Toll Gate, you will see Ichiuda Observation Deck.

This is an observation deck at an altitude of 300m, and is a spectacular vantage point from which you can see the entire Ise Plain.

There is also a parking lot, so why not get off here and enjoy the spectacular view?

When you look towards IseCity from here, you can see the beautiful countryside and Ise Bay spreading out below you.

The view during the day is beautiful, but the night view is even more beautiful! Here is the scene ↓

The sparkling city lights and sunset gradation are romantic and beautiful!

This is also known as one of the best night view spots in the Tokai region, and I think it's a perfect location for a date.

Please note that the closing time varies depending on the season, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, so be sure to check the closing time before enjoying the night view.

"Toba Bay Observation Point" where you can see the ocean

The course that descends from the mountaintop to the Toba tollgate is in a great location overlooking Toba Bay!

There are several roadsides where you can park your car, so why not get off along the way and enjoy a commemorative photo with your car?

There is also a place with a signboard for the Ise-Shima Skyline, so I think this is also a perfect place to take a commemorative photo.

You'll feel closer to the ocean than the Ise Tollgate area, so be sure to try both courses.

Very popular for its photogenic “The Post in the sky”

The Post in the sky is a retro mailbox located in the mountaintop plaza, and it is very popular because you can take great photos with the sky in the background.

You can actually send a letter, and the postmark will be Ise Post Office.

A few years ago, they started renting out flying brooms, and you can take photos next to the mailbox that look like they're flying in the sky.

If you search for "#Ise Shima Skyline" or "The Post in the sky" on Instagram, you'll get lots of photos of people riding brooms, so be sure to check them out.

This broom is available for rent at the mountaintop shop, and it's free!

The mountaintop store is located a few minutes walk from The Post in the sky, and disinfected brooms are placed near the entrance of the store.

Rental hours are from 9:00 to 17:00, which is the business hours of the mountaintop shop.

Return the broom you have finished using to the return slot outside the store.

360 degree panorama “Mt.Asama Observation Deck”

Mt.Asama Observation Deck is an observation deck located at the summit plaza, and is a spectacular viewing point with a 360-degree panoramic view!

Ise Bay stretches out below, and you can feel the rich nature of Ise-Shima National Park up close.

Here is a photo zoomed in towards TobaCity from here↓

A great ocean view where you can also see Toba's remote islands Toshijima, Sakatejima, and Kamishima!

The weather was so good that day that I could clearly see Cape Irago in Aichi Prefecture with the naked eye.

If the weather conditions are good, you may even be able to see Mt. Fuji in the distance!

In my experience, there are many chances to see Mt. Fuji in winter when the air is clear.

A footbath with a spectacular view “Observation Footbath”

Mt.Asama Observation Deck has a ``observation footbath'' where you can enjoy a footbath at a high altitude.

The fee is 100 yen for adults and 50 yen for children, and you can use it by dropping money into the provided fare box.

Here is the view from this footbath ↓

A spectacular panoramic view spreads out below you with nothing to obstruct your view.

It may be easy to lose track of time and get absorbed in the scenery, but it is said that just 10 minutes of bathing is beneficial for your body.

It is open from 10:00 to 17:00, and towels for the footbath can be purchased at the mountaintop shop.

``Kankichidai'' makes you want to shout ``Yahoo!''

There is a walking course called ``Sanpo-michi'' near the summit plaza, and you can walk around it in about 10 to 15 minutes.

Along the way, Kankichidai is one of the most scenic spots in Mie Prefecture.

Here is the view from Kankichidai↓

The Ise Plain and Ise Bay spread out below, and the Suzuka Mountains can be seen faintly in the distance.

There was a sense of freedom that made me want to shout "Yahoo!".

After the sun goes down, you can enjoy the romantic night view♪

For exquisite sweets and gourmet food, go to Asakuma Chaya.

After enjoying The Post in the sky and footbath at the summit plaza, why not take a break at Asakuma Chaya?

Asakuma Chaya is a restaurant located at the summit plaza, with a full takeout menu including sweets and drinks.

We will introduce two carefully selected exquisite sweets and gourmet foods that can only be eaten here♪

The first is the take-out menu, ``Tenku no Soft-serve Ice Cream, 380 yen (tax included)''.

On a sunny day, this soft serve ice cream looks just like a cloud when you hold it up against the blue sky.

The flavor you'll be interested in is...the rich vanilla milk taste is so delicious that you'll get addicted to it!

Eating soft-serve ice cream while looking out at the spectacular view of Ise-Shima is something special!

The second item is the ``Shima Udon'' 680 yen (tax included) from the eat-in menu.

The udon is filled with seafood, including seaweed, grated konbu kelp, bonito flakes, and fried seaweed, making it an exquisite gourmet dish with many repeat customers.

The flavor I'm curious about is...the soup stock is strong and the scent of seaweed is very rich♪

The soup had such a mild flavor that I could drink it down to the last drop.

The fact that it's full of ingredients and hearty is also very satisfying.

``Mountaintop shop'' with souvenirs from Ise-Shima

After taking a break at Asakuma Chaya, why not enjoy some shopping at the mountaintop shop?

The mountaintop shop is located next to Asakuma Chaya and has many souvenirs unique to this area.

There is a wide variety of products, including not only food, but miscellaneous goods, alcohol, and cosmetics.

Above all, picture postcards are recommended as souvenirs of your trip.

The Ise-Shima skyline and The Post in the sky are printed on it, making it very colorful and beautiful!

You can also purchase stamps, so why not post a letter with your thoughts in The Post in the sky?

The mountaintop shop is a hidden night view spot

At sunset, if you look out over the parking lot from around the mountaintop shop, you'll see a romantic night view.

The above photo was taken from the observation deck on top of the mountaintop shop building.

It is a night view spot that only those in the know know about♪

Ise's power spot "KongoshojiTemple"

KongoshojiTemple is an ancient temple connected to Kukai located on the summit of Mt. Mt.Asama, and has been passed down since ancient times as a temple that protects the demon gate of IseJingu.

It is about 2 minutes by car from the parking lot at the summit plaza, and there is free parking on the grounds.

``If you go to Ise, go to Asakuma, but if you don't go to Asakuma, it's a one-time visit,'' goes the folk song of Ise Ondo, and people who went to IseJingu used to also visit KongoshojiTemple.

There are many things to see in the temple grounds, but the sight of the pagodas lined up on both sides is especially impressive.

In the Ise-Shima region, after a funeral, there is a custom of erecting a pagoda in the inner temple of KongoshojiTemple a memorial service called ``Dake-mairi,'' and there are places where giant pagodas measuring up to 8 meters are lined up.

If you wish to pray for good fortune, how about the "Fukuushi" statue on the left side of the main hall?

The explanation board says, ``If you touch it, you will purify your heart, strengthen your will, increase your blessings and wisdom, and receive blessings for your physical health,'' so by stroking it, you can pray for various blessings.
