Hello, this is Kenchelara from the Mie Travel Gourmet Club.
In addition to running the site ``Kenche Meshi,'' which introduces Mie prefecture gourmet food, I also work as a writer on sightseeing in Mie.
This time, I visited Manpuku Shokudo in my hometown of Ise as a guest on "CBC TV Chant! Yoshi Onii-san Mie Oshi" which aired on January 11, 2021.
This restaurant is known to all locals, and its famous ``karaage bowl'' is so delicious that once you try it, you'll never forget it.
We visited a long-established store that serves local soul food and did some in-depth interviews, so we would like to introduce it in detail.
Founded in 1975! Manpuku Shokudo is known as IseCity 's soul food.
I went to Manpuku Shokudo, which has been operating in this area since 1975, a 1-minute walk from Ujiyamada Station, the base of IseJingu Jingu.
It is said to be the origin of ``karaage don'', which has now become Ise's soul food, and is one of the must-visit gourmet spots for anyone visiting Ise.
Its history began 48 years ago when Hirohiko Sukigara and his wife Suzuko wanted to provide ``cheap, delicious, and filling food'' in Ise, and they decided to do so under the guardrail of Ujiyamada Station. Opened in a shopping mall.
Initially, in order to provide customers with rice bowls that could only be eaten here, they researched day and night, and have now developed the gourmet ``karaage don'' that represents Ise, which is frequented by foodies and industry professionals from all over the country.
The restaurant was well-regarded as a homely restaurant frequented not only by tourists visiting IseJingu but also by local students.
At the entrance of the store, there is a life-sized panel of Suzuko, who is affectionately known as "Everyone's Mother," and small items such as a black telephone that give you a sense of history. There are posters and photo booths pasted up, filled with the thoughts of many customers who have visited this place.
Excellent cost performance! Karaage-don is a famous gourmet dish that you will never forget once you try it.
This is the restaurant's specialty, ``karaage don''.
It's a visual that stimulates the stomach just by looking at it, and those who have eaten it will understand the unforgettable impression...
It's a simple oyakodon with fried chicken, but when you take a bite, the flavors of garlic, pepper, and soy sauce ooze out from inside the batter.
One of the reasons for its popularity is its cost-effective price of 730 yen, so anyone can easily go and eat it.
Once you take a bite, you'll definitely understand why it's crowded with young people eating their fill of food and people visiting Ise from outside the prefecture every day.
Once you try it, you'll think, "Ah...I'm going to go to Manpuku again."
Thoughts passed down from generation to generation! From parent to child/child to grandchild
Currently, the owner of the store is Ohira Sukigara.
Mr. Ohira's parents invented Karaagedon when he was 5 years old, and now he has inherited the recipe and continues to cook it, with the idea of ``From parent to child, and from child to grandchild.'' He said he wants to pass on this taste to the next generation.
The Karaagedon recipe uses chicken marinated in a secret sauce containing ginger, garlic, and secret spices, and the special dashi stock and locally produced soy sauce add depth to the flavor. Is it a trade secret?
Also, as soon as a customer's order is placed, they start cooking, and the sight of them manipulating up to 12 pots in a phantasmagoric manner is quite impressive, so be sure to check it out.
It can truly be said to be a traditional gourmet dish passed down from generation to generation, and regardless of age or gender, by the time you leave the restaurant, your heart and stomach will be full.
