There tends to be an increase in photos of children looking like idiots (lol), but do they look energetic, fun, and cute? We are active with this motto!

After actually going out with my family, I'm sharing the charms of Mie that I highly recommend.

  • Mie is full of famous ginkgo spots!

Ginkgo trees are at their best from mid-November to early December.

The sight of familiar cityscapes and parks turning golden yellow is truly a spectacular sight.

This time, as a member of the "Tourism Mie Travel Camera Club", I have selected 6 ginkgo spots in Mie that I would like to recommend this season!

For those who are wondering "where should I go?", we will also introduce the characteristics and charm of each spot!

  • Kawachi's large ginkgo tree

The first thing we will introduce is the ``Kawachi no Dai Ginkgo'' located in Kawachi MinamiiseTown Watarai District.

This ginkgo tree is located on the site of a former nursery school, and the best time to see it is usually from late November to early December.

There is an old wooden building right next to the ginkgo tree, and the roof is covered with ginkgo trees, giving it a very retro atmosphere.

On sunny days, the sunlight shining through the ginkgo trees creates a magical space.

*The photo of the large ginkgo in Kawachi was taken in late November 2021.

Just sitting on a log under a ginkgo tree and taking a photo will make for a very nostalgic photo.

Kawachi, MinamiiseTown where Kawachi's large ginkgo trees are located, does not have a station nearby, so we recommend visiting by car.

kahadavalley

National Route 166

"kahadavalley" is a valley designated as a prefectural natural park located in the western part of MatsusakaCity.

There are famous spots for ginkgo trees all over the beautiful kahadavalley.

You can enjoy the impressive ginkgo trees along National Route 166 that runs through kahadavalley, including the ginkgo trees that shimmer around the bus stop.

*The photo along National Route 166 was taken in late November 2021.

The appeal of kahadavalley is that you can enjoy not only the ginkgo trees but also the beautiful beauty of the valley.

You can enjoy the beauty of the ginkgo biloba around the Kakinogakko-mae bus stop and the Kushida River valley.

Please be careful of cars as you will be along a national highway with a lot of traffic.

large sasanqua tree

In Kayumi, Iinan-cho, MatsusakaCity, you can also see large Sasanqua trees that change color along with ginkgo trees.

This sasanqua tree is a giant tree that is 150 years old, and along with the large ginkgo trees that line up next to it, it blooms beautifully and changes color from around late November.

*The photo of Sasanqua was taken in late November 2020.

Taiunji Temple

Taiun-ji Temple, located in Hase, Iidaka-cho, MatsusakaCity, is also an autumn foliage spot where the contrast between autumn leaves and ginkgo leaves stands out.

The entire precincts are covered in beautiful autumn leaves, but the area around the Hakkaku Dosho, which is a prefecture-designated cultural property, is particularly bright.

The best time to see them is usually from mid-November to early December, and although you have to deviate from the national highway and take a narrow mountain path, this is a recommended spot that is worth going deep into the mountains.

  • Sekita Shrine

"Sakuda Shrine" located in NabariCity is a famous spot as a "picturesque spot".

The most attractive thing about this place is the ginkgo carpet that covers the approach to the shrine.

The best time to see them is usually from late November to early December, and you can enjoy not only the ginkgo trees but also the bright red autumn leaves along the approach to the shrine.

The best time to visit is in the evening, when the approach to the shrine is crowded with visitors as the setting sun shines through.

I went with my child, and she was so excited to see the golden carpet that stretched as far as the eye could see.

By the time I got home, my whole body was covered in ginkgo (bitter smile).

  • Former Hohara Elementary School

Next up is the ``Old Hobara Elementary School Ginkgo'' that stands in the schoolyard of a closed school in MinamiiseTown.

The estimated age of this ginkgo tree is 400 years. The tree is much taller than the three-story school building, and the entire view is impossible to capture with a camera. It's truly an amazing sight!

The best time to see them is from mid-November to early December.

Ginkgo trees reflect the autumn sunlight and turn bright colors, but at the former Hobara Elementary School, the sun sets behind the mountain slopes around 3 p.m.

So, my recommended time is morning. From around 7:30, the whole ginkgo tree is dyed golden yellow by the morning sun.

Furthermore, the former Hobara Elementary School is lit up at night!

In 2023, it is scheduled to be held from around November 19th until the ginkgo leaves fall in early December.

The golden ginkgo tree on an autumn night is truly a spectacular sight!

  • Around IseJingu

The next thing I would like to introduce is the ginkgo tree around IseJingu.

Along the Isuzu River

There are also ginkgo spots along the Isuzu River that flows to IseJingu.

The large ginkgo tree that stands in the middle of the retro townscape unique to Ise has a charm that cannot be experienced anywhere else!

When I was looking at the ginkgo tree, there was a bright rainbow in the sky.

*The photo of the large ginkgo tree along the Isuzu River was taken in late November 2021.

The trees along the Isuzu River also change color on the east side of Oharai-Machi.

If you go down to the riverbed, you can enjoy the clear flow of the river and the autumn leaves up close.
If you're lucky, you might even see a brightly colored carp swimming close to you!

*The photo of the riverbed was taken in mid-November 2022.

Jingu Chokokan

Although this is not a ginkgo tree, the maple trees at Jingu Chokokan are also recommended as a little-known spot for autumn leaves!
In late November, the maple trees on the lawn on the south side of Chokokan turn bright colors.

The autumn leaves here are less crowded, and the branches of the maple trees grow low, making it a great place to take pictures of your family, friends, and other loved ones with the beautiful autumn leaves.
*The photo of Jingu Chokokan was taken in early December 2021.

  • Matsuzaka Castle Ruins

The last place we will introduce is Matsusaka Castle Ruins, a symbol of Matsusaka with its magnificent stone walls.

There are two large ginkgo trees at Suzunoya, located on the south side of the main enclosure of the Matsuzaka Castle ruins, which gradually begin to change color in November.

The impressive stone walls and the colorful ginkgo biloba surrounding the stairs leading to the gate are a spectacular sight that can only be seen here!
*Ginkgo biloba at Matsuzaka Castle ruins photographed in mid-November 2021

The Matsuzaka Castle ruins are also attractive because you can enjoy seasonal flowers.
Furthermore, GojobanYashiki, which continues from the castle ruins, is a tourist attraction as the largest existing samurai residence.

Some mansions are open to the public, and there are plenty of things to see around Matsuzaka Castle!
*The photo of GojobanYashiki was taken in early April 2021.
