What is the Tsu Fireworks Festival?

The Tsu Fireworks Festival is a historic fireworks festival that has been held since the Taisho era.

The event will be held for the 71st time in 2024 and will feature food stalls, the launch of approximately 5,000 fireworks, and, for the first time ever, a new sponsor invitation area.

In 2023, the event will be held on a normal scale for the first time in four years, and will attract a record 170,000 spectators.

Event date/launch location/time

The dates, launch locations, and times for the 71st Tsu Fireworks Festival 2024 are as follows.

🗓️ Date: Saturday, July 27th *In the event of bad weather, the event will be postponed until Monday, July 29th.
🎆 Venue (launch location): South off the coast of akogi TsuCity
⏰ Launch time: 20:00-21:00

The launch site is akogi Beach, but you can also enjoy viewing from the adjacent Gotemba Beach.

Expansion of viewing area and sponsor invitation area

The renovation work on akogi /Gotemba coastal embankment, which had been ongoing since 2016, has now been completed, and the 3km-long embankment road has been opened as a pedestrian precinct! This year, the festival can be viewed from anywhere on the coast.

Also, the sponsor invitation area will be introduced for the first time this year, and will be set up in front of the fireworks launch area for sponsoring companies and individuals, allowing them to enjoy the spectacular view right before their eyes.

*Applications for sponsorship for 2024 closed on Friday, July 12th.

Will there be food stalls?

In 2024, there are plans for an even more extensive selection of food stalls than last year.

The location is within the Tsu Yacht Harbor parking lot, and approximately 110 stores are planned to open.

On the day of the fireworks festival, it looks like it will be crowded with stalls selling shaved ice, yakisoba, etc.

Where is the free parking?

At the 71st Tsu Fireworks Festival in 2024, there will be two free temporary parking lots: 1,000 cars at TsuCity Industry and Sports Center (Saorina) and 2,000 cars at Boat Race Tsu.
Tsu Stadium can also be used as a paid temporary parking lot (1,000 yen fee).

There will be traffic restrictions in some areas on the day, so it's a good idea to check the TsuCity Tourism Association website in advance.

Boat Race Tsu (2000 cars)

The closest boat race to the fireworks venue is Tsu Boat Race, which is less than a 10-minute walk from akogi Beach and a few minutes walk from Gotemba Beach.

Boat Race Tsu is a boat racing course located along National Route 23, making it easy to access.

One thing to keep in mind is that every year it fills up a few hours before the fireworks go off.

It may be safer to park as early as possible.

TsuCity Industry/Sports Center (1000 units)

It takes about 15 minutes by car from TsuCity Industry and Sports Center (Saolina) to the fireworks venue, but a special paid direct bus runs from there.

The one-way fare is 230 yen for adults and 120 yen for children, and the operating hours are as follows.

🚌 Outbound (Saolina parking lot → Fireworks venue)
Between 16:00 and 20:00

🚌 Return trip (fireworks venue → Saolina parking lot)
Extra buses will be operated from time to time after the fireworks have finished.
*Last bus leaves at 22:00

The bus stop for the fireworks venue is ``Otobe Asahi Bus Stop'', which is located near `` TsuNagisamachi', which operates high-speed boats.

It's about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop to akogi Beach, and it's about a 20-30 minute walk to the launch site.

On the day of the fireworks festival, the number of buses will increase, but while the wait time at the bus stop is not that long on the way there, please note that it gets very crowded on the way back. If you are coming from far away, such as Nagoya or Osaka, you may miss the last train, so we recommend walking back to JR akogi Station.

If you want to avoid traffic jams, please see the following ``Why taking the train or walking is recommended.''

Reasons why train and walking are recommended

After the fireworks display, some entrances and exits to the free temporary parking lot at Boat Race Tsu are restricted, resulting in traffic jams like every year.

If you want to avoid getting home late due to traffic jams, we recommend taking the train and walking!

If you encounter traffic jams, you may be stuck for 30 minutes to an hour, but if you walk, you can get to the station without being affected by traffic jams.

The nearest stations to the fireworks venue are Tsushinmachi Station on the Kintetsu Railway and akogi Station on the JR Kisei Main Line, and it is a 25-30 minute walk from akogi Beach, the venue.

There are many supermarkets and convenience stores along the way from the station to the venue, so you can easily purchase drinks and food. *Be sure to take your trash home with you.
