[Reader benefits included! ] “Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY” in Toba TobaCity Prefecture will be completely renovated in 2023! Relax your body and soul in a private sauna.

“Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY” in Osatsu-cho TobaCity osatsu Prefecture will reopen in February 2023. A guest room with a private sauna is now available, with the now popular sauna attached to the room! This inn is recommended not only for sauna lovers but also for those who want to try a sauna for the first time. This time, I went on a journey to discover the charm of "Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY".

What is “Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY”?

“Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY” located in Osatsu-cho TobaCity osatsu Prefecture will be completely renovated in February 2023!

In addition to our popular dishes made with plenty of fresh seafood, we now have new guest rooms with private saunas attached to your room.

A "private sauna" is a sauna in a private room. It's your own private space, so you can enjoy the sauna without worrying about other people. Recommended for people who want to enjoy the sauna at their own pace, such as couples, couples, people who want to be alone with friends, and people who don't feel comfortable entering the sauna with strangers.

This time, I went on a journey to discover the charm of "Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY" where you can enjoy such a private sauna.

Check-in & welcome drink service

Check-in starts at 15:00. The new lobby entrance has a modern Japanese design and a calm atmosphere. It takes 1 to 2 hours to fully enjoy the sauna (depending on the individual), so if you want to enjoy the sauna to your heart's content, we recommend checking in early.

The rooms have been renovated and are very clean with a modern Japanese design, just like the lobby entrance. Another nice feature is that it has a bed (if there are more than 3 people, you can have a futon laid out). It's also equipped with a desk and Wi-Fi, so you can even do a workday!

When I arrived at my room, the staff brought me a welcome drink. There is a wide variety of drinks to choose from, including local ciders, alcoholic beverages such as beer and highballs. Please be careful not to drink excessively before entering the sauna.

Let's go to the sauna

After taking a breather while admiring osatsu cityscape and the sea that stretches out in front of you, head to the sauna.

In addition to the sauna, the bathroom has a large bathtub and outdoor bath space!

In this bathroom, we will repeat the sauna → cold bath → outside air bath → sauna... to improve our health. For cold baths, we recommend filling the bathtub with water in advance.

The temperature of the sauna was set at around 80 degrees, but if you contact the front desk, they will be able to fine-tune the temperature. So let's get on with it!

*Use saunas and cold baths as much as you can. Also, be sure to stay hydrated frequently during and before and after using the sauna.

Features of the private sauna at Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY

Self Rollie

The special feature of the private sauna at Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY is ``Self-Lowry''.

``Louryu'' is one of the sauna bathing methods handed down in Finland, the birthplace of the sauna, and means ``steam.'' It is said that by pouring water onto the sauna stone and generating steam, it increases the humidity and perceived temperature in the sauna room, and promotes sweating.

Since it is a "self-rolling" method, you will need to sprinkle water on the sauna stones yourself, but you can enjoy the rolling whenever you like. When I immediately poured water on the sauna stone, my whole body became very hot and sweat was pouring out all over my body.

In addition to promoting blood circulation and relieving fatigue, this can also be expected to have beautifying effects for women.

big water bath

While measuring the time with an hourglass installed inside the sauna room, you can go outside and take a shower at your own timing. Another nice feature is that in addition to the regular head shower, there is also a rain shower that flows down from the ceiling.

After taking a shower, go to the bathtub where you filled the water. The bathtub is large enough for two adults to soak up to their shoulders.

It is also said that a cold bath constricts the blood vessels dilated in the sauna, stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, and helps improve the autonomic nervous system.

Bathing in the open air while admiring nature

After calming your body down with a cold bath, the next step is an outside bath.

You can feel an indescribable comfort by opening the window, lying down on the provided chair, and feeling the pleasant breeze coming in from outside.

After a few minutes, I went back to the sauna. It is said that if you repeat this process two or three times, you will be able to experience the so-called "totonou" feeling.

What is “Totonou”?

It is said that after a series of activities such as sauna, cold bath, and outdoor air bathing, the mind feels refreshed and the body feels lighter. It feels different depending on the individual, and there is currently no clear academic definition.

Nice service for sauna too!

Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY has many sauna services. One of them is a sauna hat that protects hair that is easily damaged in the sauna. This is an original sauna hat made from soft Imabari towels. It is also very cute that it has the Doman Seman mark, which is unique to the ama town “osatsu”.

As I explained earlier, hydration is important in the sauna. A water server is provided in the room to ensure you stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before and after sauna.

In addition to a water server, we also offer ``Oropo,'' a popular sauna drink made by mixing Pocari Sweat with Oronamin C. There are many ways to enjoy the sauna, and I feel that I can recommend it to both sauna lovers and those who want to try a sauna for the first time.

“Sa-meshi” after sauna

After relaxing in the sauna, ``Sa-meshi'' is essential. "Sa-meshi" is an abbreviation for "sauna-meshi" and is the rice eaten after sauna.

Dinner at Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY is full of fresh seafood, and I was especially surprised by the sashimi platter! This really serves two people! ? The volume is so luxurious that you can even fit spiny lobster and abalone.

They also have a wide selection of sake, including Mie's popular local sakes such as `` Jikon'' and ``Zaku,'' which go perfectly with the sashimi.

You can also enjoy boiled fish and rock oysters, which are made to order. (The contents of the bespoke dishes vary depending on the season.)

The sa-meshi was very satisfying in both quantity and quality.

An open-air bath filled with famous hot spring water

After enjoying plenty of seafood and taking a breather in your room, head to the open-air bath on the top floor.

The hot water used in the open-air bath is said to come from Mie Prefecture's famous hot spring, Sakakibara Onsen, which will leave your skin supple. I was able to take a relaxing bath while looking at the scenery outside.

After enjoying the hot springs, lie down on a Simmons bed and take a relaxing moment. The mattress was just the right firmness and comfortable, so I had a good night's sleep.

Yoga in the morning sun

The next morning I woke up to the light shining through the window. The sea sparkling with the reflection of the morning sun is also beautiful. Lay out the yoga mat you borrowed from the front desk and enjoy a relaxing yoga session. After yesterday's sauna, my body felt very light, probably due to the effects of the sauna.

Breakfast to settle your stomach

After yoga, I eat breakfast when I'm hungry. The proprietress is said to be particular about ``breakfasts that will make you feel better,'' and there are dishes that are good for the body, such as Ise-Udon and mixed vegetables. My body and soul are completely satisfied from the morning♪

Nice setup for getting ready for going out

What I was happy about was that the sink and mirror in the room were spacious. When we asked the employees, they told us that the proprietress had carefully designed this as well. I love the attention to detail from a woman's perspective.

Short walk to Ishigami-san

Check-out is until 11:00, so you have plenty of time to prepare for your trip. Taking advantage of the time until check-out, I went to visit Ishigami-san (Shinmei-JinjaShrine), which is a short walk from Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY. Ishigami-san is a power spot famous for making women's wishes come true. Please stop by and check it out.

It is filled. May you be rich.

The concept of Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY is "Be fulfilled. Be rich."

According to the proprietress, ``Totono'' has the image of ``refreshing'' and ``resetting,'' but at Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY, you can satisfy your mind and body with sauna, seafood, hot springs, nature, and hospitality. It seems that the idea of ``I want you to be happy and prosperous'' is expressed in it.

It was a relaxing stay for my mind and body, where I was able to feel the spirit of Ryokan Otaya HEALING STAY.
