About Toba Kokusai Hotel

Toba Kokusai Hotel is located in TobaCity, Mie Prefecture, and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and is a prestigious hotel that also hosts the imperial family and state guests.

It is located in an excellent location, which is also a base for sightseeing in IseJingu-Shima, about 5 minutes by car from Kintetsu/JR Toba Station (we also operate a dedicated shuttle bus) and about 25 minutes from Ise Jingu (Naiku).

At the entrance door, a seahorse, the symbol and logo of Toba Kokusai Hotel, is dressed in a Halloween costume to welcome you.

It is said to be a symbol mark that has been protected ever since it opened in the year of the dragon in 1968.

Toba Kokusai Hotel has a restaurant and cafe that you can visit for a day trip, and I use it for a reward lunch once a year. I love going out with my kids, but even moms need some time to relax by themselves once in a while. Toba Kokusai Hotel is luxurious and offers a panoramic view of Toba Bay, allowing you to experience an extraordinary space, so it is highly recommended for day trips.

This time I enjoyed afternoon tea instead of lunch, so I'd like to tell you about it ♪

Afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the library and bar. You can go through the entrance on the 2nd floor of the hotel and use the stairs or elevator to reach the library and bar on the 1st floor.

Here, a seahorse will welcome you from the aquarium♪

Tell them your reservation name (reservations must be made by 6pm the day before), pay first, and then be guided to your seat.

There are table seats and sofa seats in the store, so you can relax and enjoy your time. First, the drinks arrive. Afternoon tea at Toba Kokusai Hotel has a wide selection of drinks! In this photo, Darjeeling is on the left and Assam is on the right. The soft scent of black tea spreads and soothes your soul.

There are 7 types of black tea and 3 types of herbal tea. We offer black tea from Taylor's of Harrogate, a purveyor to the British Royal Family, Ise Japanese black tea from Matsusaka in Mie Prefecture, and organic chamomile certified by the Soil Association. The coffee is an original blend coffee from Fuji Coffee Roasting in TsuCity City, Mie Prefecture. We also had iced coffee and iced tea.

You may be wondering which one to choose. It's served in a teacup, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors while sharing it with friends.

The 3-tier tea stand for afternoon tea is finally here. A variety of beautifully arranged desserts, with the blue sea and sky in the background. Gentle background music is playing inside the store, and this is the moment when the voltage reaches its peak.

1st stage

There are two items on the first tier, both of which are salty.

``Monster Burger'' is a mini burger with beautiful Kumano beef from Mie Prefecture and bacon cheese. It looks like bacon is cooking. This is a hearty dish that is overflowing with meat juices as you chew each bite.

“Ghost Croissant Sandwich” is a croissant sandwich with chirimenjako sausage and chou croque rouge.

Choucroute is a local dish from the Alsace region of France, and is a dish made with cabbage that has been fermented with salt.

The correct eating order for afternoon tea is to eat from the bottom up, but there is no clear rule, so the first row can also be used as a palate cleanser after a series of sweet desserts. I recommend eating it in between instead of eating it all first.

2nd stage

There are three items in the second row, and I will explain them from left to right.

``Obake no Onsen Calm Pumpkin Soup'' is made with pumpkin potage, thinly sliced baguette, and purple sweet potato foam on top. You can eat the baguette and purple sweet potato foam as is, or you can dip them in the soup.

``Obake Vanilla Tunkaron'' is decorated with a white chocolate ghost that looks like it's about to jump out on top of the Tunkaron.

Tungkaron is a Korean-style macaron, a sweet that originated in Korea. The name is a combination of the Korean word ``dung tung yi,'' which means ``fat,'' and the French confectionery ``macaron.''

This was the sweetest snack in this afternoon tea!

And “Maron Cheesecake”. Toba Kokusai Hotel's specialty is cheesecake! It has won the Cheesecake Monde Selection Gold Award for five years in a row, and is a very popular product that can be enjoyed in the lounge or purchased at hotel shops. You can also buy frozen cheesecake online.

It is a baked type cheesecake with a moist texture and a mellow texture, and this time it was a limited-time marron. The contents of the monthly cheesecake change every month♪

The cheesecake is filled with chestnuts, making it a dish where you can feel the taste of autumn. Chocolate with a spider web motif was decorated on top!

3rd row

There were also three items on the third tier. Starting from the left, first is the "purple potato mousse".

It was a mousse that took advantage of the sweetness of the purple potato material, and the top was decorated with sugar candy with a candle motif.

Next is the “pumpkin muffin”. A black cacao muffin with pumpkin and raisins, the muffin retains the sweet aroma of chocolate but has a bitter taste that mixes with the pumpkin Mont Blanc in your mouth, making it bite-sized and easy to chew.

Lastly, there is "raw canelé". It's arranged in a Halloween style, and is the raspberry sauce a blood effect? If you look closely, you can see that even the ax has blood on it and it looks very realistic. Does it look a little grotesque? However, the taste was authentic, with sweet and sour taste♪ The canelé was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, making it a must-have dish for canelé lovers.

Scones with clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam

The scones come in a bucket and are served separately from the 3-tiered tea stand. There are two types: plain and black tea. Scones are a classic snack for afternoon tea.

Scones are served with British Rodas clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. It was meant to be shared by two people!

Clotted cream is a cream that is somewhere between butter and fresh cream. Break up a scone, sandwich it inside, and enjoy. (If you leave the scones at the end, it won't go well...lol)

Tatsuno Otoshigo Cookie

Lastly, we have the Tatsuno Otoshigo cookie, which is also the symbol of Toba Kokusai Hotel. It was a light and crispy cookie♪

There is an open deck behind the entrance on the second floor, which can be used by day-trippers as well. You can look out at the sea while feeling the sea breeze and the sound of waves, so be sure to stop by here when you visit Toba Kokusai Hotel. You can also look out over Toba's remote islands, and if your timing is right, you can even see IseBayFerry passing between the remote islands.

The wonderful location makes you feel like you're a tourist even though you're a local.

A shop where you can also purchase the popular cheesecake

You can purchase cheesecakes with traditional flavors that have been made using the same methods for over half a century, as well as breads and cakes made with love. Perfect for gifts and sightseeing souvenirs.

The most popular cheesecake plain is size 7 for 4,320 yen, size 6 for 3,780 yen, and cut cheesecake is also on sale. You can purchase it on the day, but if you're worried about it selling out, we recommend making a reservation in advance.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of business opening on March 7, 2024, we were also selling a 60th anniversary commemorative set. It was a very good deal♪
