Kawachi Valley

Water, light, and autumn leaves! Beautiful Kawachi Valley

Kawachi Valley, with its clear water and beautiful sunlight, is a popular spot where you can enjoy the vivid gradation of autumn leaves that turn bright red in autumn.
During the tourist season, it is crowded with many people looking for spectacular views.

*It's especially busy on weekends, so the traffic jams getting into the parking lot increases. Please be careful when driving in the surrounding area and crossing roads ◎

Oshutabashi Bridge

The contrast between the retro Shinodabashi Bridge and the autumn leaves is also beautiful♪

Oshidabashi Bridge is a small bridge that was built in 1936 and is approximately 18m long and 4m wide.

The composition of taking pictures of the concrete, retro arch-shaped Oshinoda Bridge and the autumn leaves is also very popular!

Autumn leaves in Kawachi Valley

When is the best time to see autumn leaves in 2023?

This year's best time to see them is expected to be from mid-November to late November!
The color gradually changes, so it goes through very vivid gradations of green, yellow, orange, and red, and then turns bright red.

On rainy days, lots of moist leaves pile up under your feet, which is also very beautiful!
On rainy days with few people or days with a bit of wind, you can enjoy falling leaves and a carpet of autumn leaves in the cool air.

The progress of the autumn leaves is constantly updated on Shikujokosuiso's Instagram, which is listed in the detailed information below, so be sure to check it out!

Pay attention to the light up...!

The autumn leaves will be illuminated again this year (from 17:00 to 21:00), from November 6th (Monday) to November 19th (Sunday).and the autumn leaves will be beautifully illuminated
At the light-up that I visited last year, there weren't many people so I was able to enjoy the view in a relaxed manner.

It gets cold at night, so please come in warm clothes

*Depending on the progress of the autumn leaves, it may be extended.

*As of November 16th, the colors have just started to change, so it has been decided that the illumination will be extended until the 25th (Saturday)!

Chotokuji Temple

I want to enjoy it together with Kawachi Valley! Quiet and beautiful Chotokuji Temple

Chotoku-ji Temple, located right next to the Kawachi Valley, is a Soto sect. Although it is unclear when it was founded, it is said to have been built before 1442, and is said to have had a prosperous history as the family temple of the Unrin-in family.

《Legends that remain in this land》

There is a legend that when a dragon who lived in the Kawachi Valley returned to heaven, he left behind his own scales and cherry blossom seeds, and after making a wish at Minoya Shrine, he took the scales and climbed Mt. Shujogatake. It is said that if you pray for rain, your wish will come true, and the cherry blossom seeds became the ``Ryuozakura'' in front of the main hall of Chotokuji Temple.

Ryuo-zakura, which has been designated as a Mie Prefecture Natural Monument, is a shrub-like cherry tree with a height of 3m and branches extending to 5.5m, and is an old variety that has been known since the Muromachi period.
It is called Fugenzo and blooms around mid-April, later than wild cherry blossoms and Someiyoshino cherry trees.
It is characterized by the way it blooms with young leaves and the way it spreads out horizontally.

What is the best time to see autumn leaves at Chotokuji Temple and what to see?

This year, the best time to see them will be from mid-November to late November.
Near the main hall, there is a spot where you can see the autumn leaves of trees standing quietly, and the beauty when the light shines in and the way the leaves dance in the wind is a must-see!

When I visited last year, I found fallen leaves that were neatly separated into yellow and red.

*The path is narrow, so please watch your step and give way to each other while enjoying the view.

It's been four years since I picked up a camera, fascinated by Mie Prefecture's rich natural scenery.
I hope to share the charms of the prefecture by photographing my favorite places and moments I want to cherish, such as spending time with my family, flowers, shrines and temples, and seasonal scenery.
