KameyamaCity is home to the brand ``Kameyama Candle'', which boasts the top market share in Japan, and has many attractions such as the ``Toodori'' dance where people hold lit candles in their hands, and the ``Old Kameyama Castle Tamon Yagura'' which is lit up at night. It is decorated with various lights.

There seems to be a deep connection between KameyamaCity and “light.”

Kameyama candles began in 1927 as Tanigawa Candle Manufacturing Co., Ltd., established by Heizaburo Tanigawa, a carpenter at a shrine in Ise.
With a history of nearly 100 years, the company has been making high-quality candles that have been loved by people for a long time, with the motto "no bleeding, no bending, no smoldering" ever since its founding.

In addition to candles for the gods and Buddha, we offer a variety of other items such as scented candles and incense sticks.

In May 2024, "Kameyama Candle Town" will open where you can enjoy candle manufacturing factory tours and handmade candle workshops!
Prior to that, on March 15, 2024, the Kameyama Candle Town Store will open, one of the largest stores in Japan in terms of floor space and product lineup.

The interior design of the store was designed by Yasumichi Morita of GLAMOROUS co., ltd., an interior designer active both domestically and internationally, and the interior is all white, with candle art lighting creating a mystical space.

The ``Akari Museum'' attached to the store is filled with twinkling lights, and visitors are sure to have a relaxing time.

Summer festival and lantern dance

Another thing that is essential when talking about Kameyama and ``light'' is the lantern dance that has been danced at KameyamaCity 's summer festival, `` KameyamaCity Summer Festival,'' which has been going on since the end of the Meiji period.

At the Toodori dance, which is the main event of the summer festival, participants held bonbori made of liquid candles that lit real flames, and sang ``Kameyama Ondo'' and ``Kameyama Kouta,'' which sang about Kameyama's seasonal scenery. Let's dance together.

It was amazing to see all the citizens come out and dance with Bonbori in their hands!
Visitors will be captivated by the way the lights flicker inside the bonbori.

Fantastic bamboo light

At the KameyamaCity Summer Festival in 2023, "bamboo light" made up of approximately 1,000 bamboo lanterns of various types illuminated the venue.

Bamboo lanterns made by Kana Elia in IgaCity, which has performed at IseJingu and IseShimaSummit, as well as bamboo lanterns made in a workshop by students from Kameyama Junior High School, were lined up at the venue.

The sight of flickering lights among the many bamboo lights is a very magical sight.

Illumination of the former Kameyama Castle Tamon Yagura

Kameyama Castle was built by Munenori Okamoto in 1590.
Tamon Yagura is located on top of a high stone wall called the castle tower, and is thought to have been built around 1632.

It is designated as a prefectural historic site as the only existing castle building in Mie Prefecture, and is a familiar symbol of KameyamaCity 's historical atmosphere.
When lit up, the stone walls and white walls stand out in the darkness, giving the area a solemn atmosphere.

summary

The ``Light Dance Preservation Society'' has a motto: ``Light in your heart.''
For KameyamaCity, ``light'' has been associated with things such as the Kameyama candle and the lantern dance since ancient times, and has warmly illuminated the hearts of people throughout the ages.
