`` ShimaCity Hamashima Beach Experience Facility UmiHozuki'' is a rare ``shore beach experience facility'' in Japan. You can enjoy various experiences such as fishing in a facility that recreates a natural rocky shore, making it very popular with families with small children. You can also touch seaside creatures and try your hand at making dried fish.
ShimaCity City Hamajimaiso Experience Facility UmiHozuki, located near Hamajima Fishing Port in ShimaCity, is a popular facility that offers a variety of experiences.
This is a rare ``shore'' experience facility in Japan, which recreates the tidal pools after the tide has gone out in a form that is close to nature.
The shallow rocky shore is accessible even to small children, and it is designed to be barrier-free, so anyone can safely interact with the sea creatures.
This time, we will be reporting on the recommended experience programs starting in spring.
The people who tried it out were the Oyama family who live in ShimaCity. 5-year-old Tori-kun is so excited to try `` UmiHozuki'' for the first time!
First, try the "fishing experience".
You will receive a rod and bait at the reception desk, and the staff will teach you how to attach the bait.
The place to try fishing is Wanpaku Iso.
It recreates a rocky shore close to the natural sea, where horse mackerel, sea bream, and spiny lobster swim leisurely.
The Oyama family first decided to experience horse mackerel fishing.
I wondered if I would be able to catch the fish within the 20 minute time limit, but as soon as I dropped the line, it was a hit! Touri-kun grabs the jerky rod firmly with both hands and pulls the horse mackerel towards him.
With the support of my sister Fuzuki and my mother, I was able to catch a live horse mackerel!
Torri-kun caught a fish with his own hands for the first time and couldn't help but smile.
Put the horse mackerel you caught in the bucket, re-bait it again, and then place the hook in the space where the horse mackerel swims again.
Shortly after, the horse mackerel hit again, and I managed to catch a second one as well!
By the way, the horse mackerel fishing experience is limited to two fish, and you can choose whether to process the horse mackerel you caught into dried fish to take home, or have the horse mackerel cook it for you and eat it.
This time, let's have them enjoy the experience of making dried fish later. Even if you don't catch any fish, you can still get two.
Now, after horse mackerel, I will try fishing for sea bream.
The swimming space for sea bream is wider than for horse mackerel, so it will be a little more difficult, but will you be able to catch it successfully?
After throwing the needle over and over again aiming at the spot where the sea bream was, it finally hit! !
The pull of sea bream is strong, so it was a bit difficult for Tori to do it alone, but he and his father worked together to pull up the flexible rod and the parent and child were able to catch one!
By the way, you can enjoy fishing as many times as you like in Thailand, but catch and release is the rule here. If you catch a fish, return it immediately.
Next, try fishing for spiny lobster!
Catching spiny lobster that is lying still on a rocky area is quite a difficult task, and requires a lot of patience.
As I dropped the hook over and over again into the rocky area where the spiny lobster was hiding, I felt a strong pull coming from the rod and finally caught the spiny lobster!
Fuzuki-chan is also very interested in seeing the vibrant spiny lobsters up close!
By the way, you can catch up to two lobsters during the spiny lobster fishing experience, and the lobsters you catch will be grilled over charcoal and eaten.
Even if you don't catch one, you can still get one.
After thoroughly enjoying the fishing experience, try the ``dried fish making experience'' where you can process the horse mackerel you caught into dried fish.
This ``dried fish making experience'' is a very popular experience program where you can learn how to use a knife, how to cut fish, and techniques for processing seafood.
Move to the processing factory "Himono Sobo" in the "Learning and Experience Building" and put on an apron.
Under the guidance of the staff, we will open the back of the horse mackerel we just caught. Touri-kun, who has never cut fish before, was a bit scared and surprised.
I carefully cut the horse mackerel with the help of my father, being careful not to cut my hands.
After removing the internal organs and sprinkling the horse mackerel generously with salt, we will put it in the dryer and wait for a while until it is finished.
I decided to take advantage of the time until the dried fish was ready and eat the spiny lobster I caught earlier!
UmiHozuki is equipped with a barbecue stove and charcoal, and you can grill the spiny lobsters you caught on the spot.
Quickly blanch the crispy spiny lobsters in boiling water and place on a wire rack.
The body color changes to a bright red, and the fragrant aroma of grilled spiny lobster spreads all over the place!
Separate the head and body of the freshly grilled spiny lobster, peel the shell, and enjoy the piping hot flavor. Not only is the flesh of the spiny lobster tender and sweet, but the rich flavor of the miso is also exceptional!
This time, I also had fried horse mackerel made for the photo shoot. Fuzuki-chan is hungry and stuffs her mouth with freshly fried horse mackerel.
*The number of horse mackerel actually caught may differ from the actual number as it is for photographing purposes.
Dad paid extra for the bread (200 yen), got dog bread and cabbage, made horse mackerel dog, and was very happy.
In the meantime, the dried horse mackerel was completed!
Let's have it packed in a bag and take it as a souvenir of the day.
Exciting fishing, experience of drying fish, and eating fresh seafood you just caught.
It was a first for the children, and the Oyama family was very satisfied! Parents and children were able to enjoy various experiences at UmiHozuki.
In addition to the experiences introduced this time, UmiHozuki offers a variety of experience programs, such as the experience of making Tekone sushi (reservation required), a local Shima dish, and the handmade art experience using seashells.
The fishing experience at Wanpaku Beach will be available until the end of March, and from April onwards you will be able to enjoy the ``shore experience'' where you can observe the creatures on the shore and interact with fish.
As the weather gets warmer and it's fun to play outside, why not try out the beach experience at UmiHozuki?
There is no doubt that you can make wonderful memories with your family!
