HigashiKishu area has become much more convenient to access with the opening of the expressway. KihokuTown, the gateway town to the World Heritage Site Kumano Kodo, holds unique events each season and is crowded with both locals and tourists. This time, we went to the ``Year-end Kiinagashima Port City'' which is rumored to be ``particularly popular''! This is an event where you can enjoy the blessings of the sea, and it's full of highlights!

Kihoku-cho, Kitamuro-gun, is located in the south of Mie Prefecture, which stretches from north to KihokuTown.
KihokuTown which faces the sea, is home to nagashima Port, which boasts one of the highest catches in the prefecture, and is attractive for its fresh seafood.

This time, we went to KihokuTown popular annual event, "Year-end Kiinagashima Port City"!
Expectations are high as you can get products such as fish and shellfish such as spiny lobster and oysters, dried fish, and local specialty products at reasonable prices.

Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy on the day of the interview, but as soon as the event started, customers started arriving one after another.

This shows how popular this event is.
The venue is bigger than I imagined! Expectations are high as to what kind of products will be on display, such as fresh seafood and local specialties.

a! ! Find a product that will whet your appetite! !

These are ``Salmon and Salmon Roe Oyakodon'' (right photo) and ``Seafood Bowl'' (left photo) from ``Uotsho Kaito''.
The vivid colors of the ingredients are completely different from what you normally see, so you can tell how fresh they are just by looking at them.

The older brother of “Fish Master Kaito” is bright and energetic!

They brought me big, lively shrimp. It's fun to interact with the energetic people working at the port!

I soon came across a product that caught my eye!

This is "Chirimenjako" from "Ebisuya". There are 4 types: ``Salmon'', ``Plum'', ``Nozawana'', and ``Mentaiko'', and they all look delicious! I bought it immediately as a souvenir.

Lured by the delicious smell, I stopped by Kosuke Co., Ltd.'s shop and found that they were just grilling oysters and large clams!

I was planning on deciding what I wanted to eat after going around the circuit, but I ended up with so many things I wanted to eat right away! !

The female staff skillfully opens the oysters and large clams.

They are being baked one after another and are selling well! !

"Miso making experience" was held in the morning. Customers who came with children and couples seemed to have a lot of fun!

The children were also immersed in the experience for the first time.

I found a sign that said "Sunfish Kushiyaki" that caught my attention and went to that restaurant. In KihokuTown, there is a custom of eating sunfish. I can't even imagine the taste.

I bought this because I wanted to enjoy the local gourmet food since I came here. The host will bake it for you after you order!

It has a firm texture and taste similar to chicken.

It's delicious and doesn't have the "unusual taste" that I was a little worried about! !

``Maruboshi Sanma'' from the Marsa Sea.

The way the shiny saury overlaps is beautiful. It's a winter tradition in Kishu.
In a blink of an eye, it was lunch time.

The ``Free Shichirin Corner'' where you can grill the ingredients you buy on the spot is very popular.

Customers with children can also enjoy the food in a ``barbecue mood''!

The interview ends here. I bought the ``Seafood Bowl'' (1,000 yen/tax included) from the first restaurant I encountered, ``Uotsho Kaito''.

Every time I ate each ingredient, I was amazed at how fresh it was.
After all, it tastes so much better when you eat it locally!

Maruhi Kaisan's Toro Sanma Sushi (600 yen/tax included) also looked very delicious, so I bought some.

The meat has just the right amount of fat and is soft and has a refreshing taste, making it easy to eat with your chopsticks.

And today's featured event, "Albacore tuna dissection show and behavior" has started!

The event space is already full of customers.
When the tuna is brought out, the customers applaud! !

The manager of Marumasa Kaisan, who says he is the best at cutting tuna locally, uses a large knife to cut it down in a dynamic and splendid manner.

The craftsmanship allows the various parts to be beautifully carved.
He explained each part one by one, so I learned a lot!

The customers seemed to enjoy the show as they watched the spectacular performance and the beautifully cut tuna.

The combination of the two on stage was also perfect.

After the demolition show, there was a rock-paper-scissors competition with prizes such as tuna "blocks" and "nakaochi with bones".

Since the prizes were so luxurious, the customers got excited and had a great time!

While the rock-paper-scissors competition is being held, behind the stage, the staff members are preparing to serve the customers.
I'm so happy to be able to enjoy such fresh tuna.

“Behavior” starts! Everyone was overjoyed and were all smiles, saying, ``The freshness is different from the tuna we usually eat'' and ``It's more delicious than I imagined.''

A Japan Coast Guard patrol boat was moored at the fishing port where the event was held and was open to the public.

What does a ship that protects safety at sea look like inside?

Crew members from the Japan Coast Guard explained the role of the patrol boat and its internal equipment.

We are reminded that the ``safety and security'' of our daily lives is maintained because of the presence of these people.

What was being held at the entrance of the venue was an "exhibition of Ground Self-Defense Force vehicles and equipment."

You can also try on uniforms, and taking a two-shot photo with a Self-Defense Force member is also popular among young women!

The ``Mochimaki'' held in the afternoon was as successful as the ``Tuna Cutting Show.''

The fishermen threw out mochi and sweets one after another, and adults and children mixed in, and everyone got a lot! !

Even in the afternoon, the number of customers continues. Customers were holding bags in both hands and seemed to be purchasing many souvenirs.

This year marks the 13th year of the ``Year-end Kiinagashima Port City.''
Not only were you able to purchase fresh seafood from the Kumano Sea, dried fish, and other products unique to this region at reasonable prices, there were also various events and experiences that both adults and children could enjoy.

It's no surprise that so many repeat customers say they look forward to it every year. Please come and visit this event where you can fully enjoy the charm of KihokuTown!
