Try bouldering at “Climbing Gym Monter” in ToinTown! Enjoy a stylish lunch at the attached cafe

掲載日:2019.03.29

Bouldering has rapidly become more popular in recent years.
People tend to think that climbing only uses the muscles in your arms, but in reality, you use all the muscles in your body to climb, so it's a perfect sport to get rid of lack of exercise or to lose weight.
There are spots where you can go bouldering all over the prefecture, but one that is popular because it has a stylish cafe is Climbing Gym Monter in ToinTown.
There are courses for beginners to experts, making it a spot that families and couples alike can enjoy.

There is a stylish and conspicuous building in ToinTown, where a peaceful rural landscape spreads out.
That is "climbing gym monter".
"Sport climbing" is attracting attention as it will be an official event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This time, I would like to enjoy one of them, "bouldering"!

Reception immediately. "Monter" is a popular gym where people of various levels, from beginners to experts, can try bouldering together.
Even if it's your first time bouldering and you don't know how to do it or the rules, the receptionist will give you detailed instructions.

First, choose your shoes. Climbing shoes should be the perfect size for your feet. You will choose shoes that match your size while receiving guidance from the staff.
For your first experience climbing, you can rent shoes and a chalk pack containing anti-slip powder for free.

There are two types of climbing shoes: the flat type, which has a flat sole, and the down toe type, which has a downwardly curved toe.
The flat type is recommended for beginners, so I rented that.

Let's try bouldering for the first time on the "Beginner Course"! I'm nervous, but also excited!
The colorful protrusions on the wall are called ``holds,'' and you use them to climb up the wall.
There is a tape with a number or symbol written on it below each hold, and the basic rule is to aim from the start to the goal using only holds with the same symbol written on them.
Depending on the stage of the challenge, you can place your feet on any hold, hold with your hands, or use both hands and feet.
Hmmmm, I see... Now that you understand the rules, it's time to actually climb!

Wow, it's surprisingly difficult even for a beginner's course! It's a sport that requires more brain power than I imagined, as you move your body while looking for a hold with the same tape on it and thinking about how to reach it!
I used to think that bouldering was about climbing using the strength of your hands, but after experiencing it, I realized that the strength of your legs is also important, not your hands!
``It's a good idea to hook your feet here~'' I listened to advice that was easy to understand even for first-timers and moved my limbs, and I was able to climb better than I expected! fun!
I changed the places I climbed and tried different tape courses many times to get used to it.

Next, go to the advanced course!
Compared to the beginner course, the shape and number of holds increases all at once, making it seem difficult. There are so many holds that make you wonder, "Where on earth are you going to grab it?" The course also has an impressive shape that juts out from the wall.

After all, the difficulty level increases when it comes to advanced courses!
However, as I kept trying, my fear gradually subsided and I was able to climb higher. Once you get the hang of it, it gets even more fun!
When you actually try bouldering here, it feels more like visiting an amusement park and enjoying the attractions than training your body at a gym.
I now understand the feelings of people who are addicted to bouldering!

The instructor also showed us a sample!
It's so cool to see him grasp the hold with dynamic movements, like jumping at times, and climb smoothly and smoothly!

The instructor can easily climb up angled walls. As expected!
It seems that even women can climb like this if they get used to it over time! I admire you♪

I was absorbed in having fun, and when I suddenly looked at the clock, it was almost noon. I'm just getting hungry!
So we decided to have lunch at the cafe on the second floor. This is a cafe space where you can relax and have table seats.

This cafe space overlooks the advanced course on the first floor, offering a spectacular view. It would be fun if I could climb all the way to the top.

As I was about to sit down at the cafe table, I discovered something that caught my attention.
Oh, I've seen these two ropes somewhere...
The "battle rope" that a certain famous athlete used during training on TV, I never expected to find it here...!

``Hold two ropes in your right and left hands and take turns swinging them up and down,'' the instructor carefully instructed.
When you pick it up, the weight of the rope is heavy! Just shaking it a little was really painful! ! ! I was impressed by the greatness of the athletes who were able to do it so easily.

Now, it's time for the long-awaited lunch!
This is the popular menu item ``Fluffy Egg Omelette Rice'' (850 yen/excluding tax). It's topped with special white sauce and demi-glace sauce and looks very delicious!
You can use either sauce depending on your preference.

As the name suggests, the fluffy eggs will put a smile on your face ♪ I'm happy that the portion size is just right and it's easy for women to eat ♪
In addition, there is a wide variety of dessert menus such as ``crispy bacon and fluffy omelette rice'' (1,150 yen/excluding tax), pasta, curry, and shaved ice.
In addition, the drink menu includes menu items typical of a sports gym, such as ``Whey Protein Drink'' (an animal-based protein drink that increases muscle mass) and ``Soy Protein Drink'' (a plant-based protein drink that is effective for dieting).
There's a cafe inside the shop, so it's nice that you don't have to change clothes every time you finish bouldering.

Enjoy your meal while watching the bouldering action on the first floor. I learn a lot from watching advanced climbers climb♪
Also, you can use this cafe only without bouldering.
Moms can relax at the cafe while watching kids and dads go bouldering with their families. It's so easy to use♪

There is a goods corner inside the store, where tools and original products necessary for bouldering are sold. Once I get used to it, I want to get my own shoes!

While browsing the goods corner, I found a cute T-shirt! When I asked the owner, he told me that this T-shirt is an original product of the store.
The design is stylish not only for bouldering but also for casual wear♪ I was drawn to the design and bought it as a souvenir♪

This time we were guided by the manager, Mr. Yokomizo, and the staff member, Mr. Otaki. Both of them also serve as instructors, so if there's anything you don't understand, you can feel free to ask.
Thank you for teaching me the fun of bouldering today♪

Even if I was a bouldering beginner who didn't know the rules, I was able to learn how to climb quickly and take on the challenge as the staff carefully taught me how to climb by actually putting them into practice!
You can also just use the cafe, so you can watch other users and get a feel for the bouldering atmosphere while eating lunch!
Enjoy with your family, friends, or alone. Feel free to try it out in your own free style!
