The ria coastline of the Ise-Shima region of Mie Prefecture offers incredibly beautiful scenery with its numerous islands and inlets of Ago Bay. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also get a bird's-eye view of this natural beauty from a height of 10,000 feet. At the Ise-Shima Skydiving Club, you can take to the skies with a skilled instructor for a thrilling free-fall experience and enjoy unparalleled views.
This article introduces the charms of Mie Prefecture for foreigners who speak English, so your perspective may be a little different, but please enjoy these points as well.
To be honest, there were some things I wasn't sure about, but I decided to go skydiving in Ise-Shima, go 10,000 feet above the ground, and jump out of a helicopter.
This experience will definitely change the way I see the world.
There are two reasons why I chose Ise Shima Skydiving.
One is that the Ise-Shima Skydiving Club is one of the few places in the world where you can experience skydiving from a helicopter.
And secondly, I was convinced that the view of the spectacular Ago Bay and all of its beautiful islands from high up in the sky would be absolutely amazing.
I could feel my heart beating faster as I knew that once I boarded this helicopter, I would soon be at the dive site.
He followed his father into the profession and is a friendly New Zealander with many years of skydiving experience. His background of 14 years of experience and over 300 jumps gave me great peace of mind.
After a quick ice-breaker chat, the first step was to sign the necessary consent forms.
Next, we sat on a small sofa and watched a video to learn the basics of jumping.
Just watching the video of it flying over Ago Bay and free falling is thrilling.
Finally, put on your jump suit and harness.
These pieces of equipment were meant to ensure our safety, and they provided thorough explanations and clear instructions.
The four-point harness we used this time weighs approximately 3 kg, which is still quite heavy, but the pack Reese is wearing weighs approximately 25 kg! ! Contains a main parachute and a reserve parachute.
Finally, it was time to board the helicopter.
I was so absorbed in talking to Reese that I completely forgot to prepare myself, but when he said, ``It's time to fly!'' the reality suddenly hit me and I became nervous.
But thankfully, I didn't have time to think about it too much and headed straight for the helipad.
We climb into the back seat and the pilot begins turning the propeller above us.
Then, in a few seconds, it took off, moving further and further away from Taso Shirahama, and rapidly rising into the blue sky above the sea.
Immediately after taking off, the surrounding scenery is amazing, and just riding in the helicopter is an amazing thrill!
After about 7 minutes of flying and reaching 5,000 feet, Reese asked me to sit on his lap to secure my harness with his.
I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness as the time to jump approached, but Reese talked to me the entire time, and his jokes and confident demeanor put me at ease.
When I slid the door open, I was greeted with a spectacular sight that I had never seen before.
Once I reached 10,000 feet, I grabbed the harness with both hands and headed for the open door, putting my foot between Reese's legs.
"Are you ready? "
We jumped out the door and the free fall began.
Although the fall took only 30 seconds, it felt much longer and the force of the fall, falling at a speed of about 250km/h, was astonishing. The only way to understand this feeling is to experience it for yourself.
When I opened my parachute, my free fall ended and I was floating comfortably above the most beautiful place on Earth.
The uniquely shaped islands, the vast ocean, and the picturesque coastline spread out before my eyes and took my breath away.
This experience was one I will never forget and I am grateful to my wonderful instructors who supported me throughout.
And I was able to understand what Reese meant at the beginning of the day: ``Only skydivers know why birds sing.''
