``Nikodo'' is a long-established store that has been welcoming worshipers since the Taisho era in Oharai-Naiku, a tourist-filled Oharai-Machi located a 1-minute walk from UjibashiBridge, the inner shrine of Ise IseJingu. Not only do we have a wide variety of souvenirs that are popular with tourists, but the famous steak beef bowl at the restaurant ``Horaitei'' inside the store is a luxurious dish topped with plenty of Matsusaka beef! The secret soy sauce sauce goes perfectly with rice, and is a must-try dish when you visit Naiku. The store also sells easy-to-eat menu items such as beef skewers, meat buns, and croquettes made with Matsusaka beef.

As you enter IseJingu after visiting Oharai-Machi, you will immediately see "Nikodo" on your left, which has been located here since the beginning of the Taisho era!
The architectural style is a gable roof and a gable in a cobblestone street. You can feel the atmosphere of history.

The large noren curtain in the corner of the entrance with the words ``Matsusaka Meat Beef Bowl'' on it is sure to catch the attention of people passing by. Even so, the gyudon made with Matsusaka beef is so luxurious!

Horaitei is a restaurant attached to Nikkodo.
The signature menu written on the noren is this steak beef bowl made with Matsusaka beef!
``Matsusaka beef bowl top'' contains a generous 90g of Matsusaka beef, and the meat is so melt-in-the-mouth that it seems like it's about to spill out from the top of the bowl.
The homemade soy sauce mixes well with the delicious flavor of the Matsusaka beef fat, making it a great pairing with rice!

Steak beef bowl was born in 1991.
It was developed as a signboard menu when the Nikkodo store was rebuilt and the restaurant Horaitei was opened in the new store.
So, why did we decide to serve high-quality Matsusaka beef in a casual form called “Gyudon”?

``At that time, there were no restaurants around here where you could eat Matsusaka beef,'' says the fourth-generation owner, ``I wanted people visiting Ise to be able to taste the finest Matsusaka beef.'' Mr. Koichi Tonomura.
``I thought it would be a good idea to have a beef bowl that is made into a steak and served on a bowl so that people who stop by for lunch or while sightseeing can easily enjoy it without spending too much time.''

The key to the taste of gyudon is the flavor of the sauce that matches the flavor of the beef fat!
During the closure period for renovations, Mr. Tonomura visited restaurants in famous brand beef producing regions such as Hida and Omi, and sometimes even as far as the Kanto region, to pursue the taste of the sauce.

As a result, we arrived at Horaitei's original special sauce, which is similar to sukiyaki sauce and has a simple seasoning using only carefully selected soy sauce, mirin, and sugar!
It has been over 30 years since then, and the taste has remained the same, continuing to entertain people who come for Matsusaka Beef Bowl.

In addition to steak bowls, Horaitei offers other popular menu items such as Ise-Shima's local dish ``Tekone Sushi'' and the famous ` Ise-Udon', which can be enjoyed by a wide range of age groups.

There is also a food stall next to the store curtain that says ``Matsusaka Beef Gyudon.''
The signature menu here is Matsusaka beef skewers!

``We decided to offer a beef skewer menu so that tourists could enjoy Matsusaka beef more easily than the steak beef bowl,'' says Tonomura.
Matsusaka beef skewers first appeared over 20 years ago. Nowadays, you can find it at other stores, but Horaitei is said to be the origin of Matsusaka beef skewers in Oharai-Machi!

In addition to Matsusaka beef skewers, we also have croquettes, meat buns, and sausages made with Matsusaka beef.
You can also enjoy it while sitting on the desk placed behind the noren curtain.

There are floor desks inside the store, so you can easily take a break after visiting Naiku. This desk also has a history.

Around the beginning of the Showa era, when bus travel became popular, many tourists visited Oharai-Machi and brought their own lunch boxes.
In order to make it easier for such people to stop by, Nikkodo set up desks on the floor as a rest area and provided free tea for people to use.
The fact that there are still floor desks in the store is a sign of the continued hospitality for tourists from back then.

Looking back at Nikkodo's history, when it was founded around the end of the Meiji period, it started with the production and wholesale of ginger sugar, a specialty of Ise.
After that, they opened a store in Oharai-Machi and have a history of more than 100 years.

Ginger sugar, which is the origin of Nikkodo, is a confectionery made by boiling down ginger juice, sugar, and starch syrup and pouring it into a copper mold to harden it.It is still sold today with a design in the shape of a talisman from IseJingu. I am.

Another popular item is the ``Matsusaka beef all-purpose sauce,'' which is made by slowly stewing Matsusaka beef to bring out its flavor and combining it with the deep richness of black garlic.
Other options include ``Matsusaka Beef Rice Sauce,'' where the richness of miso and sweetness of onions match the concentrated flavor of Matsusaka Beef, ``Matsusaka Beef Bukkake Ginger,'' which is a mixture of finely chopped ginger and shiitake mushrooms, and the aroma of garlic and miso. We also have a wide repertoire of menu items that can be enjoyed on top of rice, such as the Matsusaka Beef Garlic Meat Miso, which brings out the richness of the meat.

There is a wide variety of patterns available, and it is said that there are people who notice and buy new pieces every time they visit.

Opposite the Matsusaka beef skewer stall in front of the store, there is also a tempura stall!
From the end of each year until the end of March, we rent out our eaves to Shinbeiya, a company that makes kamaboko using local fish from the Kumanonada Sea, and sell freshly fried tempura there.
