Kawabata Kaido (Kawajo Kaido)
*Currently, it is not passable due to damage caused by Typhoon No. 12.
The retired emperors and aristocrats visited the main shrine and then took boats down the Kumano River to Shingu, while the common people walked along the cliffs on the east bank of the Kumano River. Most of the ancient path has been lost, but the ``Senji Return'', which is said to have been about 500 meters long and is walkable, is where the Emperor's messengers turned back due to the water being too high.
