YokkaichiCity Kusunoki History and Folklore Museum Yokkaichi City History and Folklore Museum

The museum is the former Okada residence in Hongo, Kusunoki Town. The Okada family served the lord of Kusunoki Castle for generations, and served as a village headman during the Edo period. The former Kusunoki Town received donations of land and buildings from the Okada family in March 2002. The main building and storehouse are estimated to be over 250 years old, and the tachikaisho (government office facility) is said to be over 130 years old, as it is mentioned in a document from 1898. In addition to restoring them, a new exhibition building was constructed at the site of the severely damaged rice warehouse, and progress has been made to create a base for preserving and promoting the history and culture of the Kusunoki area. The main building, the auditorium, and the storehouse were designated as tangible cultural properties by the former Kusunoki Town in 2002 and by the city in February 2005.
When you pass through the entrance of the main house, you will find a dimly lit dirt floor. There is a large stove in the kitchen, and when you look up you will see thick pillars and beams that glow black. When you open the sliding door, you'll see a number of tatami rooms leading to the back, a space that dates back 250 years. You can relax and immerse yourself in an ancient world where time seems to have stopped moving. The museum consists of the main building, an auditorium, a warehouse, and a newly built exhibition building, and collects, stores, and exhibits materials such as actual objects, models, documents, and photographs that tell the history of the Kusunoki area.
