This shrine has been deeply worshiped by people as the guardian deity of Hamashima since ancient times, and the ``Yumihiki Shinji'' and ``Ban no Uo'' rituals are held every January 11th.
The grove of trees surrounding the shrine is the shrine's guardian forest and has been designated as a prefectural natural monument.
Originally called Hachioji Shrine, it was renamed in August 1898.
