Wooden eleven-faced Kannon statue

This temple belongs to the Yamashina sect of the niu sect, and was founded in 885 as Nyuzankin Hasedera Temple.
The Iitaka Sukune clan, a powerful family in Ise Province, made this place a place of imperial request from Emperor Mitsutaka, the 58th Emperor of Japan.
It was erected with the encouragement of close relatives both inside and outside Japan.

Eleven-faced Kannon statue (nationally designated important cultural property) 6.6m tall
It is an upright colossal statue made of marquetry, and the robe from the shoulders forms a double arc at the hem.
The robes that come out from the ends of both hands are nearly vertical, drawing large curves and hanging down from side to side.
This gives the statue a slender and magnificent appearance.
The robe pattern is shallowly carved and elegant in the Fujiwara style, and the hem has sharp wrinkles from early Heian style robes.
It is made from a single piece of wood and exhibits strength.
