Ichiba Sho townscape
MatsusakaCity is crossed by the Ise Kaido, which crosses kumozu and runs through the town, the Nara Kaido, which joins at Oiwake in Tsukimoto, and the Hase Kaido, which joins on the south side of the Mito River. During the Edo period, these roads were bustling as routes to visit shrines, and many people, from feudal lords to commoners, traveled back and forth day and night in palanquins, on horseback, or on foot. In particular, along the Ise Kaido in the Ichiba-no-sho district, there are rare gabled houses and lattice windows, which are said to be rare even nationwide...
