その昔、倭姫命（やまとひめのみこと）が志摩の国を巡られたとき、伊佐波登美命（いざわとみのみこと）に命じて造営されたといわれています。 古くから｢志摩一の宮」と称えられ、伊勢神宮内宮の別宮中、特別に高い格式を誇っています。また、｢伊雑宮御田植祭」（いざわのみやおたうえまつり）は、毎年6月24日に行なわれる日本三大御田植祭りのひとつ。重要無形民俗文化財にも指定されています。

伊雑宮は、天照大御神の御魂をお祀りし、「いぞうぐう」とも呼ばれます。古くから「遙宮」として崇敬を集め、地元の人々によって海の幸、山の幸の豊饒が祈られてきました。 毎年6月24日(6月月次祭当日)に行われる御田植式は、とても雅な神事で、「磯部の御神田」の名で国の重要無形民俗文化財に登録され、日本三大田植祭の一つとされます。 <iframe width="672" height="378" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mGzCPIzdBhE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
