Whale boat event at Toride Shrine

Date: Wednesday, August 14th to Thursday, August 15th, 2024

The event has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and includes a fire suppression festival and town parade on the 14th, followed by a parade at Toride Shrine on the 15th.
A battle takes place between whale boat floats decorated with gorgeous carvings and splendid embroidery and whales, which are symbolized by a large catch and wealth. At the end, it is a heroic event in which the whale is successfully killed and offered to the gods to pray for a good harvest.
