nago Tenno Festival

Date: Saturday, August 3, 2024 19:00

This festival, which is held on the Saturday close to August 1st every year to pray for good health, is held on Tsushima Island in Owari Prefecture to quell the epidemic that occurred during the Tensho and Bunroku 4 years (1595) about 400 years ago. It is said that this festival began with the prayer of Susanoo no Mikoto from the shrine.
On the day of the festival, lion dances go around the houses in the town from early morning until evening, and at night, gorgeous floats are brought out from the Yotsuya, Nakaseko, and Baba districts and paraded into the grounds of Iino Shrine.
On the roofs of the three floats, bonten (a 9m long pole with 108 lanterns attached), which is the symbol of the gods, is erected, and on top of the 2m high floats, a lion dance is performed to the sound of flutes and drums. I will.
Dashi floats began to be pulled out in 1640, but lion dances began to be performed on top of the floats at the beginning of the Meiji period, and over time the festival took on its current form. became.
