The Goma memorial service, affectionately known as ``Goma-san'', is crowded with more than 50,000 worshipers who pray for the safety of their families, a good harvest, and an abundance of fish. Segiji Temple, officially called Kyōzan yagami Hokongoin Temple, is a Shingon sect temple that is said to have been opened by Gyoki at the request of Emperor Shomu around the Tenpyo era (729-749).
