Shiokake Festival (Oshima Festival) Shiokake Matsuri (Oshima Matsuri)

This festival boasts a tradition of over 780 years.
To celebrate the return of the sea goddess Ichikishima Hime-no-Mikoto to a shrine on Oshima, ama divers and fishermen offer the catch of the day, such as abalone, and pray for safety at sea and a good catch. Afterwards, it's a world-famous festival where boats and people splash seawater on each other and throw seawater into the sea!
