Explanatory text

"Founded in 709 AD, it is one of the three great Kannon temples of Japan. The principal image is the Bodhisattva Kannon. It has been a place of prayer for successive shogun families and the Todo family, the feudal lords of Tsu, and is an ancient Shingon Buddhist temple with numerous cultural assets. Currently, it is bustling as a center of faith for the common people."
