Explanatory text

This is a representative garden from the Northern and Southern Courts period that still exists today, and has been designated as a national scenic spot and historic site. This wild garden expresses the aesthetic sense of the local nobles of the time, and evokes the atmosphere of the past. The harmony between the garden and the autumn leaves is wonderful. One of Japan's three great military commander gardens. The garden was built during the Muromachi period.
