Explanatory text

This ancient shrine enshrines Uketsuke-no-Okami, the god of prosperity in the food and beverage industry. The grounds, also known as Tsutsuji-yama, are home to approximately 5,000 purple azaleas. There are many cultural assets from the Heian period, and Shichito-ike Pond is famous for its ancient garden style. It is said that Shichito-ike Pond was dug overnight by Kobo Daishi, and the seven islands floating in the 72m long, narrow pond are said to represent Japan.
