Explanatory text

It is a shrub that grows to a height of 3m and has a cup-shaped tree shape. Legend has it that it grew from a cherry blossom seed that was left behind along with its scales by a dragon that is said to have lived in the pool in front of the temple as it ascended to heaven. This cherry blossom, called the Dragon King Cherry Blossom, is also known as "Fugenzakura" or "Fugenzo" and is a rare variety of cherry blossom that blooms and leaves at the same time, and is designated as a natural monument of Mie Prefecture. Every year, it begins to bloom about a week later than normal cherry blossoms (such as Somei Yoshino).
