Explanatory text

It is a representative surviving garden from the Northern and Southern Courts period, and is designated as a national place of scenic beauty and historic site. This wild garden expresses the aesthetic sense of the local nobles of the time, and recalls the atmosphere of the past. The garden and the autumn leaves are in wonderful harmony. It is one of Japan's three great military commander gardens. It was built in the Muromachi period. (Photographed in autumn 2009)
