"Kuki Yoshitaka built the castle in Bunroku 3 (1594). It later became the base of the Kuki Navy. The main gate is built to jut out towards the sea, which is a rare shape in Japan, and this Otemado Water Gate served as the entrance and exit. Currently, Toba Elementary School has been built on the site of the Ninomaru, and the site of the Honmaru is now the school's grounds, with only a few vestiges remaining in the stone walls of the castle tower.
