"This is ShirongoFestival at Shirahige Shrine, a festival for female divers. At the sound of a conch shell, all the female divers on the island dive into the sea at the same time, competing to be the first to catch a pair of abalone. The first pair of abalone, male and female, is offered to the shrine, and prayers are offered for a good catch and safety at sea."
