Explanatory text
This ancient Shingon Buddhist temple has many buildings scattered deep in Mt. Seibo. It is famous as a place of prayer for maritime safety. The principal image of worship is the golden Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, who appears in the legend of "Kannon Riding a Whale." A grand festival is held on January 18th of the lunar calendar, and the temple is bustling with many people who come to pray for safety at sea.
