Explanatory text

MatsuuraTakeshiro, the man who gave Hokkaido its name, was born in 1818 (Bunsei 1) in Sugawara Village, Ichishi County (Onoe Town MatsusakaCity City). He first traveled to Ezo at the age of 28, and then explored the region six times in his life. At the age of 52, he was appointed Ezo Development Judge, and established the names of the roads and the country. The memorial museum will introduce Takeshiro's various roles as a traveler, explorer, and writer through exhibits and videos.
