Explanatory text
With Onigajo in Yoshino-Kumano National Park as a backdrop, this spectacular fireworks display unfolds out into the open sea, making it the biggest summer event on the Kumano roads. It features around 10,000 fireworks. Highlights include the suicide at sea display, in which lit fireworks are tossed one after the other from two boats running at full speed, the large-scale device that uses the rocks and caves of Onigajo, and the three-foot-dama suicide at sea display that spreads across the Kumano Sea. In addition to the explosions and wind from the fireworks themselves, the sound of them bouncing off the rocks and reverberating in the caves also add to the spectacular impact.
