Explanatory text

Sangakuji Temple was once the base of a mountain religion (Tendai sect spread by Saicho) where warrior monks gathered. It has now been revived as a shrine and temple where the love-matching cranes of the legend took place. Every year in early spring, the "Origami Crane Prayer Offering" ceremony is held, where people make wishes by folding cranes, and in October, the "Warrior Monk Festival" is held, where a flaming portable shrine is paraded through the hot spring town.
