This temple was built in 885, and its materials book and the principal image, a standing eleven-faced Kannon, are designated as important cultural properties of Japan. The principal image is one of the largest in Japan, standing 6.6m tall, and is counted as one of the "Three Great Kannon of Japan" along with the principal image at Hasedera Temple in Nara and Kamakura.
