Explanatory text
During the Warring States period, Yunoyama Onsen's Sangakuji Temple had hundreds of "soldiers" who fought bravely against the tyranny of the samurai government of the time. The festival began with the aim of honoring these warriors, dressing up as them, and conveying their legacy to the modern day, and this year marks the 42nd anniversary of the festival. At the main venue, there are many performances and shows, including the soldiers drumming, and the climax on the second day is the "Flame Mikoshi", where men dressed as soldiers carry a portable shrine with flaming torches and parade through the hot spring town.
