Explanatory text

This temple, affectionately known as Takada Honzan, is the head temple of the Shinshu sect, founded by Saint Shinran. As you may know from history class, Saint Shinran was exiled to Echigo when Nembutsu was suppressed. If we trace his footsteps after that, we can see that he traveled around the Kanto region and returned to Kyoto. Senshu-ji Temple, the main temple in Takada, Moka City, Tochigi Prefecture, can be considered his base in the Kanto region. Later, the head temple was moved to isshinden-cho TsuCity Mie Prefecture. It became the basis for the current Takada Honzan. Senshu-ji Temple, the head temple of the Takada branch of the Shinshu sect, formed a temple town in isshinden and continues to convey the Nembutsu that Saint Shinran popularized to this day. The Goei-do Hall is the largest wooden building in the prefecture and is a designated Important Cultural Property. National treasures and Important Cultural Properties are in the Treasure Museum.
