Explanatory text

The large shimenawa rope around Meotoiwa(rocksofthemarriedcouple) Iwa Rocks is replaced three times a year. Meotoiwa(rocksofthemarriedcouple) Meoto Iwa Rocks serve as a torii gate for worshipping the Futamiokitama-JinjaShirine (a sacred stone located about 700m offshore from Meotoiwa(rocksofthemarriedcouple)) and the Sun God, which are associated with Sarutahiko Okami, the deity of Futamiokitama Shrine. There are five large shimenawa ropes stretched around the rocks, each weighing 40kg, measuring 10cm in width and 35m in length.
