Explanatory text
A historic space quietly breathes between the cypress fence and stone pavement. This is a samurai residence where Kishu feudal lords moved to guard Matsusaka Castle at the end of the Edo period. These types of tenement houses are extremely rare across the country, and people still live there today. The interior of one of the houses at the north end of the west wing is open to the public.
