Explanatory text

This festival at Kumano Hayatama Taisha Shrine conveys the power of water transportation that has developed in this area since ancient times. The Harihari dance is performed on a Morote-bune boat, which is said to be the prototype of the whaling ships in this region, and is performed in a traditional style with a dancer dressed in women's clothing called "Atagaiuchi" in a red robe and the rowers who beat the rhythm of the dance.
