Explanatory text

It is 58m long, 4m wide, and has a central girder of 16.6m, which is wound with wire from the top of a 15.6m high steel tower that stands on the pier, and can be raised at an 80 degree angle. It is the oldest existing movable bridge in Japan. Moreover, it is still in operation, with 5 to 10 freight trains passing through it every day. It was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1998.
