Explanatory text
Stretching 22km from KumanoCity to KihoTown, it is the longest gravel coast in Japan and has been selected alongside other kachiji nationwide, including as one of Japan's 100 Best Beaches and one of Japan's 100 Best Natural Sites for the 21st Century. This beach, which gently receives the rough Kuroshio Current, is covered with pebbles polished by the rough waves of the Kumano Nada Sea, from the upper reaches of the Kumano River through Shingu. These colorful pebbles, known as "Mihama Pebbles," are picked up by "pickers" and used to make accessories. It is also known as a landing site for loggerhead turtles. *The photo shows ShichiriMihamaBeach as seen from Matsumoto Pass.
